party review : Blake Baxter @ Acid ist Fertig, Suicide Circus

by individualusername

As I think, you all know Blake Baxter, so there is no need for any biographical description. (If you dont know him, shame on you and have a look here :)  )

The Suicide Circus is a very small club in the party centre of Berlin around Warschauer Strasse. Its located in an former industrial area,  surrounded by 3 other clubs, usually occupied by tourists.                                                                                                                       After a proper warm-up by Frank Bean , Blake Baxter started playing from 3-5( actually 2-4, because of this summer/winter time stuff, but thats too confusing now). Due to the Suicide Circus´ nominal size,  there was an really intimate and private atmosphere and an great interaction between him and the audience ( as he said afterwards, thats one of the reasons, why he prefers playing in smaller clubs ) .                                                                        He was playing on 4 decks combing records and CD´s. In the first hour of his set he was using mostly records and has been checking out the mood of the audience, testing different styles and so on, to look how hard he could get later.                                                                     In the second hour,  he started with really hard, banging oldskool acid house and rave classics like  “Jesus loves the Acid” and all that stuff, beaming the audience to new dimensions of sound.                                                                                                                           The people where – even for Berlin-conditions –  really going crazy for his set, dancing exstaticly with huge smiles and as I suppose water was the most sold drink that night ;)       For me it was very interesting to watch Lord Baxter operating on the decks, because I didnt suspect he´d  be mixing that rough. But it was awesome set, anyways!! ( by the way: keep your eyes peeled for an institute-interview with Blake Baxter about his impressions of the development of the berlin party-/club scene, the set he played this weekend, and differences between american and german mixing, coming up in the next days, weeks, months or years)

Underground Resistance Live @ New Music Seminar, Limelight, New York – 19-07-1992 Artwork

by fancypunk

A fabulous old live set in New York (1992) at New Music Seminar by the well known legendary collective of Detroit  Underground Resistance. Old dirty beats , traveling us back to electronics’s music history. They are the most militantly political example of techno scene in the USA , with a exception musical aesthetic and a strict anti-mainstream attitude , combining political activism with techno. You can read a full interesting article at wikipedia regarding the history of underground resistance since the beggining in the late 80s. Underground resistance remain one of the political critical mass in the US , their website address is http://www.undergroundresistance.com/

Life 89.2 fm reunion party “15 years after”

by fancypunk

On Friday 22nd of January a reunion party of life Fm will take place in Athens. Few lines for people who don’t know what life fm 89.2 is about “special edition for the readers this month of the shituationist blog as well”. Dedicating some lines for life fm  means that we present something concerning history of electronic music in Greece. Truly for people like me lifefm is a legendary frequency , is history of Athenian dance music scene in general. It is the radio that we were listening for years non stop . Life fm is the first electronic music radio in Athens  , definitely part of the golden times of rave in Greece.

For some of us Life fm is also  a beautiful  distinct recollection of how dance music scene looked like 15 years ago. Perhaps today, my knowledge and the style of electronic music I’m listening doesn’t really meets the line up of the anniversary party for the 15 years of life fm. But in the other hand I would certainly like to attend , most probably because I will meet people who grew up with the radio:)I’m excited in the idea of having once again good time by talking  about the past years  and memories of our childhood…I still remember how disappointed I was when the radio  stopped functioning

Well if you think the same with me , let’s go to the party and listen popular stuff such as trance tracks etc..  well-known from the daily program of the radio. I consider this party  a good occasion (food) to discuss further what happened that years , maybe it  could give us a motivation for a good article concerning anti-history of dance music scene in Greece??

freakuency radio starts…. imaginary institute for interlocal interferences on

by fancypunk

Freakuency  is a new decentralized radio online in a testing level which is started after long discussions , little steps of development , searching for resources , sharing skills. We are definitely convinced that was the right way to start a radio project. A horizontal way with all of us participating in a beautiful decentralized process with one purpose: starting a new online radio project collective related to electronic music interests.

Finally we succeed , our efforts came out with results and our little radio is online. Techno , minimal dj sets , house tunes , progressive attitudes , underground concepts , supporting local scenes and artists , drum n bass , dubstep as well as electro releases are occupying the self organized DIY “studios of our decentralised radio , broadcasting from everywhere.

Our project is open to new contributions and ideas , the only thing you have to do is to send us an open letter to our email address , describing your ideas. If you re willing to do it we will be glad to reply to you as soon as possible. The day schedule of our radio is an open process for discussion , with our collective discussing every new idea and possibility. So feel free to share your ideas with us

for new ideas and suggestions you can mail us here freakuencyradio@gmail.com and you can listen online here

Autechre: Cavity Job single

by fancypunk

Cavity Job was the first single ever released by Autechre in December 1991 on Hardcore records. I also found it on my music library some days ago , actually I had years to listen to this single as usual with the most of my old music stuff. This single was definitely influental for the early beginning of the electronic scene as well as it was influented by the rave/acid house of that time (late 80s – beggining of 90s) in the UK. It was originally released as a 12″ vinyl record with over of 1000 copies pressed (Side A “Cavity Job” – 6:25 and Side B “Accelera 1 & 2″ – 6:58). I still  love it and for sure I guess it is still available and easy to find. You can find a previous record review of chiastic slide album  by Autechre here

new represion wave in France against Free Festivals and non commercial soundsystems (teknivals)

by fancypunk

APEL_A_MANIF_freeparade09

A new repression wave of the Sarkozis Government is taking place recently in France. The police special Forces attacked and arrest ravers in the streets of Paris during the “fete la muzique” celebration in the end of the last month. New laws , Police statements and tactics are focusing on the final distraction of the free party culture in France and the whole free rave itself , as it happened in England and other places of Europe already. I read comments from all around Europe who tried to oppose   other “dogmatic” activists (especially in Greece)who consider TEKNIVALS as free drug paradise , in the end supporting the State,  in order to legalize its  repression activity. The repression against teknivals is repression against any individual who respects her self , against every freedom , creativity  , art and humanity progress. Im already planning next weeks to spread info material as well as try to organize workshops in Athens and Berlin concerning the new Laws and situation in Europe. To whom it may concern to help with information , material , solidarity posters or whatever , contact with us with subject TEKNIVAL SOLIDARITY

MORE info about the situation in France at http://apples-underground.blogspot.com

about TEKNIVALS and politics check at DATACIDE magazine
