reports from 2- 7 August Ozora 2011

This years Ozora was one of the best festivals I´ve experienced so far. It´s an magical place full of peace, love and unity inhabited by about 50.000 friendly hippie-people. Its surrounded by beautiful nature and huge hemp fields and also the festival area itself offers a wonderful landscape. What I really appreciated at Ozora, is that the festival  gives you a lot possibilities to enjoy your time there with different activities like yoga-, meditation-, or crafting-workshops or other hippie-stuff, which I´ve spend most of my time with, because I actually dont like goa-music :) Therefore I  can´t write a lot about the music, except that the main-stage was always fast, loud, hard and crowded and the chill-stage was offering a large variety of dub-music, ambient, techno and world-music.

report by Jen pixie
One of the biggest and most popular psychedelic tribal gatherings, set place in the magical landscapes of Ozora, Hungary, yet again for the 12th year in a row.
Unfortunatly my friends and I didn’t make it to the first 2 days, due to the fact that we were at another festival in Greece right before it. 4rth of August, at around 3-4 in the morning, we finally arrived at the festival, having driven over a time of 2 days(making stops of course) to get there from Athens by car. Getting there we found out there were aprox.30000 people attending this year, so luckily we got there at night and didn’t have to wait for 4 hours at the ticket line(as some people i spoke with had to do)…we rushed in,parked, and left straight to the main stage, where Penta the Russian psytrance producer was about to go up on decks.
The atmosphere in the stage was mind boggling, so many people dancing to the music poudning away, many dressed up in all sorts of handmade costumes, fairies, elfs, pirates, aliens, a guy in a banana suite running all around, glitter, bubbles, blow up blastic animals everywhere, big hats big glasses, shiny happy party people all around!  Amazing fluo decor coverring the main dancefloor area…lights and lazers, flickering over the trees and people dancing all around the hills and fields surrounding the main stage. Right behind the dancefloor, a huge bon fire was lit, with many people keeping warm and dancing around it. Nonstop music every day…except for a few hours break in the afternoons, when most people of the main stage moved over to the chill out stage: an amazing wooden mushroom/dome shaped construction lit up with different light patterns every night, where dub, ambient, chill out music were played all day and all night… The first day, there was quite a lot of progressive trance played, making it not so “chill”. Great sounds, possitive vibes, beautiful people. MAking it also a really great sleeping area. Great musicians, such as OTT, Eat Static, H.U.V.A Network,Kaya project, Younger Brother Sound system,Prometheus and so many more filled this air with magical sounds and happy vibes. Between the main stage and the chill out stage as always, there was a long path full of shops, chai stands, people with vans cooking and serving all sorts of foods from all over the world.
At night people put on fire shows, fire works were set off and Chinese lanters were set off into the sky. Quite a production! Basically, it seems like over the years the “O.Z.O.R.A. family” keeps growing bigger. more and more people attending, more shops and stands gathering, more people selling handmade jewelery/clothes, more djs. It’s not only a music festival anymore. Also having a “magic garden” , basically a space of yoga tents, all sorts of workshops, music lessons, activities…it’s become sort of a small village in a way of the “O.Z.O.R.A. tribe”…making it a meeting point for people from all over the world to gather every August. Massive combination of music and arts. Gathering people of all sorts and styles. From hippy types ,modern day “shamans”,  to “warrior princes and princesses” , many people of the techno cummunity, of all ages…all dancing together in harmony. Smiles everywhere. quite delightful in our day and age, to be surrounded by thousands of happy hyper people! Many other festivals playing darker trance usually tend to have another vibe to them. O.Z.O.R.A. which mainly plays more progressive sounds and airy-fairy ambient tunes seems to just make people feel totally free and happy all day long :)

Fusion 2011, some fragmentary impressions

by insti2te

Instead of telling you everything we have experienced at Fusion-Festival this year (too many stories for this small space) we decided to give you a little overview about some interesting acts we’ve seen and share some pictures.

individualusername:

At first i want to mention Bingo Ingo & Die Bingo Band, who made an crazy combination of Bingo-Rock ( with songs like “In the Mood for Bingo” or “Sweet Bingo Boy” ) and a Bingo-Gala,  which I really enjoyed. We´ve managed to win 2 bottles of champagne and lots of booze there, that helped us to survive the rainy fusion nights. Another great act was Tour de Vinyl , who did an perfomance with a laptop and 2 hometrainer-bikes, that where moving the turntables, playing some comedy and audio-drama records. I also really enjoyed the gig of Toni Haupt & Band , playing an mostly improvised slow semi-electric concert at the dubstation, with live-vocals, drums, a horn-section and a laptop, getting all the dubheads up to dance. Another interesting concert I´ve seen, was by Station 17 , a band out of people with Down´s  Syndrom, who where really rocking the floor with an energetic mixture out of technoid Krautrock, Dub and Hip-Hop. But most of all I enjoyed the gig of Guru Guru, who are a legendary and very influental german Kraut- and Acid-Rock group, playing constantly since the late 60´s and alltough they are ( as i suppose ) all over 70 now, still make totally freaked-out live-shows, as you can see in this video for example.

and very few pictures from dr0fn0thing:

(it was so rainy…)

there is a pretty professional video out there, too professional and clean to represent this festival or any of the more freaky parts that individualusername recommended above, but whatever (let’s not romantisize retrounderground culture and crypto elitism), i’ll just embed it here for you to watch:

Fusion festival (short note) and a video from the last year

by fancypunk01

Fusion is a large alternative music Festival in Germany. It takes place in an old Soviet military base at Larz . This year fusion took place from 30th of June till yesterday. The motto of the festival is holiday communism , the area is huge with more than 12 stages of electronic music and beyond.

It is possible to have a mini report from the festival the next days by the friends who joined this year .

The tickets were sold out very early , i bet many of you were searching for a ticket at the last minute. People who never got there before , below there is a video in two parts to get an impression from one of our favorite festivals. Personaly I joined fusion twice, you can read my report/older critique from 2009  or  by drofnothing from the last year. Every comment from this year’s fusion is welcome,  the same though with reports , videos etc..

Outlook Festival, 1st-4th September 2011

by fancypunk01

Outlook Festival is with no doubt the largest bass music festival in Europe. Outlook takes place for the 5th year now  around at one of the most beautiful areas of Croatia (Fort Punta Christo – Pula). Many friends were there the last years and they shared with us the best impressions. The festival is already sold out according the info at the official website , you may contact the organizers for a last minute ticket? not sure that you will succeed indeed.

Concerning the line up of the festival ,  especially the dubstep one , even though some really great acts go there this year  such as Skream and Benga , i didnt really get excited. It seems that the influence of the post dubstep of our days partly didnt effect the line up of outlook :D . I would prefer  to see a more progressive style this year.

The other part of the line up we are interested for  ,are certainly  the drum n bass participations for this year. I could write that this year’s line up satisfies me a lot , with some of my favorite acts announced , such as Jenna G , Shy FX , friction , D Bridge etc. The whole line up for all stages and different genres of the festival can be found on the website. http://www.outlookfestival.com/lineup/

You can also enjoy bellow a mini promo mix made for the festival by dropfelas. Dropfellas is an ambitious project that began in 2008 in the suburbs of East London, thanks to the passion and strength of two Italian dj/producers influenced by Dubstep music

Athens Pride 2011 May 31 – June 4

by fancypunk01

The annual Athens Pride , a festival for LGBT rights is scheduled from May 31 to June 4. Even if you don’t agree with the background of the organizers , supporting the Pride is crucial itself. First because in Greece of 21st century , basic human rights are suppressed. Secondly because gender discrimination and racism is a daily issue in “civilized” Greece. Supporting the pride also means a mobilization against Greek orthodox fundamentalism and Nazis who try to attack the pride every year as it happens anywhere where Nazis exist. Therefore We are expecting you there ;)

BLOC Weekend review

by mnanotek

This review took a while to get online and that’s because it took me a while to absorb what took place at the Bloc weekend. With an incredible line up that featured the ‘crème de la crème’ of electronic music Bloc festival celebrated its fifth year of existence gathering thousands of audiophiles from all over Europe. There were five stages hosting music ranging from techno to electronica via breakcore and dubstep. The RFID (Recursive Function Immersive Dome) definitely caught my attention with its cerebral visual projections, and that’s before we even get to the amazing line up that included Luke Vibert, Ed DMX, Ceephax Acid Crew, and my surprise highlight Global Goon whose mix of Acid Techno and atmospheric basslines sent the crowd wild.

Some of my favorite acts were on on Friday which unfortunately I missed. Ben Klock was on & apparently even though he was supersick(as in having a flu kind of sick)he managed to put together a supersick set too! Amongst others who played were LFO,Ancient Methods,Silent Servant,Modeselektor,Apparat & Shackleton. Moving on to Saturday around 2:00am I decided to go check Aphex Twin like 90% of the people attending the festival. I came across an endless queue that made it impossible for me to enter,  but  again being at a festival as massive as Bloc I could only keep partying so I made my way towards RED:BLOC stage were Jimmy Edgar was giving an electro disco funk performance which was awesome! Venetian Snares followed around 3:00 am with intense stuff! After that decided to go back to my temporary home to chill..Even though I’m not a TV person I totally enjoyed Bloc TV’s cult oddities such as ‘Executive Koala’, ‘My impossible kid’ ,interviews & footage from the festival’s previews years. The time was 6:00 am & that meant only one thing..Legowelt! His Electro/Techno set was truly amazing & I just hope he could play in the Uk more often!

Overall I was left with the best impressions & I’d surely go back next year where Bloc’s taking place again at Butlins Minehead on 16-18 of March 2012.

…Maybe I didn’t get to see Aphex Twin’s live this time, but I’ll never forget bumping into a guy in the middle of the night while looking for a cheese knife….that guy was Aphex Twin himself!! :D
