film review: everywhere and nowhere by Menhaj Huda

by fancypunk01

Everywhere and nowhere is the new movie by Menhaj Huda a 44 years old film director originally from Bangladesh out in the cinemas at May 2011. I have discovered him recently by watching this movie as well as some previous ones such as the kidulthood. Actually i could easily say that I got impressed by both of the movies (kidulthood is a great movie for example) , the way Menhaj Huda is presenting   the daily life and  the criminalization of  young second generation immigrants in the UK.

His new film Everywhere and nowhere is also a drama  centered on a British Asian torn between honoring his family traditions and his love for DJing. It clearly shows the structures of the Indian concervative families , how  also associate with the outsiders of their tradition and the  accidental side of the world in general.

The story evolves with the passion of a young  British Indian for electronic music who decides to quit his studies in the college , following  his dream to become a dj and producer of drum n bass. Instead of associating only with people from his own culture soon He discovers the club scene of the UK , and getting involve with it. His family’s patriarchical environment is definitely hostile for his new interests and friends ,soon He is getting in a strong conflict with his father and mother and other members of his family.

Besides the fact of the Indian traditions and family structures , in this movie the  director shows a bit the music scene and party life in a usual weekend at the metropolis of London which is interesting more or less. The soundtrack of the movie is a rather pop dubstep tune (nothing really interesting)  including also remixes by various UK producers. If you dont have anything else to do a Monday night for example,  this film is tempting. Apparently it isnt the best film you ve  ever seen but its recommended , definitely better than many hollywood fims and by a very interesting director. You can find all the remixes of the main film track here: http://eandnremix.heroku.com/    and the main track bellow.

Documentary on Elephants in camden town

by fancypunk01

A documentary on rare species filmed in Camden town ( London)

Ftrazesko Perrotti was the person behind this short experiment in Camden wearing an elephant musk and having as a task to perform in his mask from Camden Tube Station to Mornington Crescent Station exploring the reaction of the crowd whilst walking through them.
elephant man:Frazesko Perrotti camera : Maria Konstantines Araka (under the name “Markoira” on this blog )

Im posting bellow also a text , part of  the popular of Adorno (Markoira desired it)

Under the private culture monopoly it is a fact “tyranny leaves the body free and directs its attacks on the soul”. The ruler no longer says, “You must think as I do, or die”. He says, “You are free not to think as I do, your life, your property, everything shall remain yours, but from this day onward you are a stranger among us”.Theodor Adorno and Max Horkheimer – The Dialectic of Enlightenment

tonight: Yes Men presentation in Hamburg

by dr0fn0thing

tonight at the Druckerei in the Gängeviertel Hamburg (big topic, but i don’t have time right now, basically artists squatted an old area of hamburg to raise awareness for the need of creative spaces) there will be a movie screening of “The Yes Men fix the world”. The movie/documentary is about some fake and hoax activists (the yes men) doing stuff to intimidate big companies. at 7 hot drinks are served, at 8 the movie is shown and afterwards you can organise the revolution with some beers.

I met the Yes Men once in Berlin and what I liked most about them was their wary attitude towards the attac activists in the room. This movie is inspirational and funny.

deadmau5: i remember – rave nostalgia short film and track

by dr0fn0thing

deadmau5 and kaskade finally released their 10 minutes short film “i remember” online. it’s a song from deadmau5 (basically it’s the “clockwork” track) with vocals from kaskade/Haley Gibby (hat tip for this info to miguelinho from the all around the world community).  the video stars the actor stephen graham as a oldschool raver, passing on info, in the form of 10 commandments of rave, to some new guys that organise their first underground warehouse rave.

then comes commandment number 6: “reject the mainstream”, which is the intro for the fashion label that sponsors this thing…. pretty shizophrenic message here. someone once said that it’s incredible that the english rave scene had to be smashed down by cops, whereas the german rave scene did sell-out themselves. in this short, the history gets turned around a bit and sellout is put in also for Britain… in the form of wearing this new label all the time and painting the logo of it next to a deadmau5 graffiti. but anyways, apart from the agressive product placement it’s a cute video, like a tribute to illegal raves. especially the end “to be continued” and the two kids that will grow up as the next generation ravers :)

without further a-do, the video:
