towards a summer break , notes from our new little paradise

by fancypunk01

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

As you can easily understand from the slide show , this year some of us , we have explored a new location that we could make our little private shituationist parties. Accidentally this year, i was traveling in some particular areas in southern Peloponnese.

Suddenly a good friend (party partner) called me,  her holiday was a disaster somewhere in west of Peloponnese. Apparently It was easy to meet but we didn’t know  where we should go.

After traveling around , in couple of particular locations , such as villages on the mountains and free camping at the southest part of Peloponnese , we found the perfect place to stay for 10 days. A huge – beautiful beach 18klm from Gythio (a popular touristic destination).

We found a very little house surrounded by trees directly on the beach. The only little problem was the electricity. Dubstep was the soundtrack of the beach?, a little party started in a daily basis with cocktails and beer. Others joined us (some locals) and we had a perfect holiday :D .

some other updates from our annual summer break

As far as I know,  few other contributors of this blog and shituationists :P join Ozora festival this year (wait for our annual report afterwards). At the moment and after 3 days of hitch hiking , I am in Montpelier (France) , a beautiful city of the french south directly near the Spanish border. Techno community and parties here , seems to be tempting. Some people here say that free party scene as well as dubstep and drum n bass circles are definitely influential.

Im already planning a shituationist institute event here. I am contacting the various venues of the city already. :D wait my updates and news soon.

have a great summer

Party Report : Shituationist Institute @ Molis Ksipnisa Bar [Thessaloniki 5/2]

by yannweiss

What a night…

Thessaloniki welcomed Shituationist Institute in town with a party in Molis Ksipnisa Bar.

As the night went by, more and more people came and created a very nice party mood preparing everyone for a night full of grooves , dance and smiles :)

It was around midnight, and it was time S. Klimperbeat and B. Wurst to begin their set…and WOW , the groovy tunes and the dancy melodies started creating a very nice atmosphere! A very nice tech-house set shaking the place!

People responded well and danced till the last moment of the party…it was nice seeing familiar faces everywhere smilling , talking , dancing and getting to know each other!

Later on , it was Yann Weiss time to play his music selections and make people groove with a deeper set.

Next day, positive feedbacks and congratulations about the party and the Shituationist Institute came from almost everywhere… :)

We’d like to thank each and every one of you for the support on our first event in town and the great night you helped us create.

Thank you :D

a shituationist report from our long party weekend in the beginning of the month part 1 (report by Fancypunk)

by fancypunk01

At the beginning of February, shituationist institute spread a call for a long weekend in Athens and Thessaloniki. Two shituationist institute and AKNE djs from Berlin were invited (B  Wurst and Schlendrian Klimperbeat) , the plan was: two exceptional events in the two biggest cities of Greece. In Athens the event held at Astron bar (we already mentioned many times that is one of our beloved locations in downtown Athens).Together with them two other members of the shituationist institute in Athens , dj Sourbi and Georgio Deshawn.

Actually as you could see  from the pictures bellow  the party was very stylish and the atmosphere kinda exciting , according our discussions and evaluation afterwards as well. As usual no one  is perfect even though if we are trying to be  perfectionists .. Some little problems with the laptops , the fucking rain etc.. but in the end almost everybody danced and enjoyed the music.

In Athens we already count two very successful events, We would love to thanks as we do usually all the shituationist institute community who ve been there(and sad for friends who missed it because of the god damn rain).. It is really nice to see that in Athens already we moved forward ..  from marginality to creativity by establishing a community space for those who not only love techno but also the community feeling and attitude. We promise to work harder and have always something new and better than the previous times.

After Our party at Astron bar , we all took the train in Thessaloniki on Saturday morning after a day chilling at Jennifer’s pixxie house. we all had fun in the train .. drinking , smoking , chatting . In Thessaloniki the party held at Molis Ksipnisa Bar hopefully Yann Weiss (one of the djs and contributor of this blog will write something about the party in Thessaloniki’s party because unfortunately I had to work that night at shelter club.

In Athens

We would like to thanks with no specific order as usual :ALXP(Hospital) ,  Magnus , Oscar (the techno kids from Berlin) angeldoumis , Jennifer pixxie ,my sisters  Sandy Mayhem and Katerina S  ,Katia ,Thunder the sex machine, Giourgakis(we loved the after at your place the last time) , Sourbi , GiorgoGiannis(Deshawn) , Schlendrian Klimperbeat , Kostas Biomusik , B Wurst , the guy behind arnetiko.blogspot.com , Hrysa and the other woman (I forgot  the name)behind the bar.. All the new fiends we made that night … and Astron bar … We look forward for the next party ..

Stuff I´ve found on Soundcloud

by individualusername

New stuff from the  berlin dj/producer Prayton . He has produced a remix of ICR´s “Somebody Else” and made an very energetic amen- drum and bass oriented song out of it with evolving pads getting pitched and modulated trough all frequencies..very hypnotic!!

Dr.Motte, one of the first berlin DJs, as well as founder of the Loveparade and probably one the most politicaly-active guys in town, has published new tracks on his Label Praxxiz. I really enjoyed his remix of the track “Sunfighter” he has made together with DJ Dag.Its like pure peak-time techno mixed with dubby house pianos and freaky sounds seducing you to dance immediatly…

The guys from the live-electronic project Dürerstuben have been putting some new songs on their soundcloud, too. As I allready wrote the last time, its the perfect music for dancing totally wasted in the early morning hours…Always very catchy, very deep and very hypnotic.

Dr.Nojoke one of the most crazy live-artist I´ve ever seen( during his perfomances he is making sounds with empty bottles, concertinas, every kind of metal and everything that makes a sound) has published an really freaking  awesome remix of “Retrovailles” by Pheek. It starts with strange noises while in the background the four to the floor kick is building up and leads to an catchy beat with complex rhythmic structures and melodies… Really interesting and intelligent electronic music .

To conclude and to give a proper warm-up for your weekend activities, here are some nice dj-sets ranging from dubstep to house.                                                                                             The first set was mady by DJ Zweifuss from Berlin. Its an nice mixture out of pure techno, some techhouse and weird and freaky house tracks .

The second set from is the greek Dj and producer Paul Grey . Its energetic deep-house with bouncing basslines mixed with techhouse and percussive tracks.

Finally theres some dubstep by Sleepwaker, one of the founders of the Dubstep-Standards partys in Berlin. He has made an very fresh dubstep-set, combining some wonky and uk-funky tracks with wobbling stuff.

Thessaloniki on the Rocks! A shituationist city guide.

by fancypunk01

Perhaps some of you were wondering how was our long activity weekend in the city of Thessaloniki a few weeks ago. Apart from this, you might also be thinking of visiting  Thessaloniki for a short trip in the future and share our interest of what is going on with the rave scene there, the local people etc… In order to have a nice visit, with party and definitely a inspiring time in the bars of the city. You may  take advice from our experiences which are written on this article below. This is the aim of this brief summary, giving a clue, a personal overview  to you , also my impression of my last visit in Thessaloniki.

I arrived there from Athens in the morning, directly running to the airport to pick up the techno kids, friends who were coming from Berlin to attend the Shelter 23 events of the weekend. Some of them were also playing at the club: nice fresh techno tunes. We straight away went for a walk in the city after laying down a few hours at a friend’s place.

In Thessaloniki you can find a huge diversity of things to do at night. It’s a city with an excellent night life, probably the best of the country (comparing with the night life of Athens for example). A couple of gorgeous, rather small bars play minimal techno, such as Elvis, as well as clubs that I will try to write a few lines about below.

Shelter 23 is a new club run by some of our friends in Thessaloniki. A new location with a good music line up of guest and resident djs every weekend. The previous weeks some guest djs from Berlin were playing and some more good artists are scheduled for the future. Keep an eye on our blog for updates. Many of the next events will be announced here.

(Shelter23 monday evening, during private AKNE/SI/GEBIRK working session)

Zenit club is another location that we visited on the weekend. Two floors with different style of electronic music. The upper floor with techno and house tunes and the lower one with drum n bass / jungle tunes. My impression from the space is that it’s excellent. It was decorated nicely and the staff  is friendly. he music at the techno floor was also good. (dr0fn0thing disagrees: boring house music with trash effects, only in the morning the music got better)

The drum n bass floor was not so nice (dr0fn0thing disagrees ;) ). It was like being in a drum n bass party in 1997. Old-school beats, rather no concept behind, kinda boring, one of the same stuff as usual. No fresh tunes of drum n bass, neither good breaks from the past as well. The djs seemed really to enjoy but I can’t say the same for the crowd. Most of the people were laying down on the sofa or drinking their cocktail at the bar (dr0fn0thing says: you came to late mate, before it was a madhouse ;) ).

Generally our night was more or less as we expected nothing extraordinary happened. (dr0fn0thing says: you were too wasted mate, the party was nice ;) )

some pics from dr0fn0things trashcam:

An other club you should check it out, unfortunately I didnt attend to any of the events there is Decadence club. According what the people said the entrance fee is rather expensive in comparison with the other locations I already mentioned before. Some people also told me that the atmosphere can be a bit problematic as well. I dunno anything else about this place apart that popular djs are playing almost every weekend.

Dubstep scene in Thessaloniki is active too. Apart from the events  hosted in clubs , students and party collective organise dubstep and free tekno parties in the university area. There is no entrance fee , those parties are often influenced by the free tekno culture and teknivals of North Europe or just by anarchist concepts.

Besides the party life in general and  the clubs  of the city , there is a joyful street life in the city too. A lot of young people hang around on the streets and have meeting points in squares etc when the weather is good. One of this locations in the heart of the city is Rotunda square near Kamara (A big gate made probably during the time of the Greek empire “middle age” today a touristic attraction monument). You can buy your beer for 80 cents to 1.30 or a cheap wine bottle (later not recommended) and warm up before you go party.

Other locations you should check out.

People usually hang out (especially teenagers), skaters etc.. at the area surround the white tower, locals and tourists mix for this strange promenade of people with all their different plans and budgets… You should definitely check out this area. The sea is near and you could have a perfect landscape, especially in the evening. Some bars within boats are there as well, one of those boats is a reggae bar in case you like that crap.

You should not forget to go for a walk in the historical part of the city up to the hils (Palia Poli). It is definitely my favorite part of the city for having a walk. As in most cities of the world, just strolling around between the places that were recommended to you is the most effective way to get an idea of the city, in this case try the coastline-university-historic center-rotunda connected by the little vertical and big horizontal streets.

Regarding the food issue

The food in the city is much better that other places I have visited before but remains not high quality, especially if you dont want to spend a lot of money. The cheapest you can find to eat on the street its guros pita a traditional greek dish. In case you are vegetarian ask for potato pita. Its cheap and tasty.

As an epilogue

Perhaps the electronic music scene in Thessaloniki is not the best of southern Europe , there are many cities with a growing scene especially in Balkans (If you consider Balkans as Southern Europe) . But in the other hand the city is beautiful and many parties take place every weekend. I didn’t probably present all the places because in a week it is not possible to visit everything. And for me it doesn’t make any sense to write about place I never visited before. If you feel that something was excluded from this article, you can write me at our email contact. I would rather prefer  you to comment below the article. I’m kinda of motivated to continue writing articles such as this one, building maybe future term,  a city map (guide) of the shituationist institute blog.
