Alphabet Heaven – The Boosh EP on King deluxe

by fancypunk

We remain amazed from the King deluxe’s new releases. We have received few days ago an other new upcoming release from the label, scheduled for the 1st of May. We are writing for the first release of Alphabets heaven named boosh!. You can read the review from King Deluxe website bellow

“Coming from the beautiful boutique label that is King Deluxe is the May 1st release of Alphabets Heaven’s Boosh. Brighton’s own sovereign of the snares and kicks delivers a 7 track release featuring 3 works as well as 3 reworks, including one from Robot Koch. Though his modus operandi would indicate an EP full of clicks and clunks, Boosh beats to a different drum. Delivered is something much more rhythmic than just click and clunks. Thought there are some up tempo ditties, my personal faves are all of the slower tempo’ed pieces. The opener and title track does feature a steady measured and melodious piece full of efx, filters, still managing to creating a refrain from it all. But I found myself stuck on Deartentonine, drawn in possibly by the opening guitar sample, but then taken to this lavishly lush landscape conjuring images and sounds of wild flora & fauna, all done gracefully in an adagio pulse. YES.” – 92BPM

featuring the best tracks of 2011 (according readers and followers of this blog)

by fancypunk

We would like to apologize once again for the delay of our annual report. We have already announced the results for the best websites of the year and best clubs and now it is the turn of the best tracks of the year. The results concerning the best tracks of the year are rather interesting and thats because many of the tracks people mentioned are actually unexpected.

Tracks from different labels and genres shows once again the variety and the extensive  strength of contemporary electronic music. An other thing that was clearly stated from this little shituationist research was the fact – a lot of different people, a lot of different choices. I was very confused in the end, what tracks to post here. Therefore I will try to be as much as objective as possible and in the other hand to present ten tracks instead of five. The tracks have not any specific order.

Darko Esser – “clean slate” comes from Curle label  as the 033rd release on February 2011. Darko esser after the success of “absolutely no regrets” releases an other fabulous deep sound techno track. Curle is a great Belgian label launched in 2006 for all things deep techno, house and miminal stuff.

Active Child – I’m in your church at night. This tracks was actually originally released in July 2010. Few people mentioned this track, therefore I decided to post it bellow. You can read a nice review on Active Child’s album released in August 2011 by pitchfork here

Andri – Rock the night feat Hellsongs (URSL 002). This is with no doubt the long awaited, open air – summer hit of the last year.Especially in the parks of Berlin in the various open air parties. The track was included in homonym EP and was released by URSL (a label based in Berlin and Hamburg) in May 2011.

Andy Stott – Dark details: available on Modern Love 2×12″. An interesting dub techno track released on Modern love labelfrom Manchester UK

Scrase – Silo Fin released on Love Love records a label based in UK

Damn Hot Night- daddyKshunn (Berlin Racketeers Mix) – unreleased

Rustie – Ultra Thizz: Very fresh sound with rather oldskool influences in some parts, from the debut Album of Rustie (Glass swords) released on Warp  last October. You can read our review on the album here

wutzlhofer – bad frequencies: A techno track from Berlin also available for free download by us few months ago

oliver schories – wildfang: Most likely, you all know this track, so no further presentment is necessary. A track who totally rocked the Berlin dancefloors last year released by Parquet Recordings . Oliver originally from Hamburg remains one of top listed djs in Germany.

Carlo Lio and  Coyu – Mike Loves The Horn: released on rejected last October by the Spanish duo.

reviews: Evy Jane says so (single)

by fancypunk

We recently have hosted two features concerning the Canadian label King Deluxe. Two interviews: one with the people of the label and one interview with Aleph, a new impressive artist from Russia. We have received also few of the releases of the label, among those releases, there is also the single of Evy Jane “says no” . Evy Jane “says no” according an article on  RA  is the very first vinyl release of King Deluxe. Evy Jane are the duo from Vancouver  (singer/keyboardist Evelyn Jane Mason and beatsmith Jeremiah Klein). “The vocals of Evelyn  on “Says so” in combination with a very proper post dubstep inspired sound makes a very exceptional result. The dark atmosphere and sensuality of this release is definitely the main impression you get at first. Besides the original version, on this release you may also find interesting the two remixes by two artists from Vancouver scene named Max ulis and Taal Mala. A highly recommended release from us today. You can buy it here as well as having an audio preview http://kingdeluxe.ca/evy-jane-self-titled/

SI) Could you tell us something about yourself and your artistic background, please ?

AC) I’m PK.  I come from Old Colony Mennonite stalk, a people that are possibly best known for their achievements in forwarding mankind’s understanding of neural plasticity, and how music can be used to repair damaged brains… in fact it was my great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandfather Joost van den Vondel III that taught Beethoven to hear again.

So the arts run deep in our family, a tradition I will begrudgingly pass on to my half dozen or so children.

SI) Can you briefly describe from an historical point of view how the scene in Canada has developed ?

AC) Hmm… if we’re speaking strictly electronic music… well unfortunately we as a nation put our smart money behind Tesla, and as your readers well know DC is mostly useless when it comes to audio production, as we’re so effectively handcuffed by Edison’s lawyers.  In fact it’s only in the past couple of years that we’ve learned to jailbreak Ableton Live and plug it into our backwards power outlets.

Since then though the scene has flourished.  A lot of the productions are very percussive and based on the old analog Inuit raves… picture hairy young men in toques and ice skates circling with midi-fitted whalebone instruments of their own designs.  But there’s all sorts of exciting offshoots that are almost wholly digital and have very little animal carcass involvement, if any.  Such as Saskatchewan born dance duo Horton, tough to describe their sound, kind of a holy marriage of Matmos, Merzbow and a loon in heat.  Original stuff, truly Canadian.

SI) Can you briefly describe what is King Deluxe and how it started ?

AC) King Deluxe is a social club for wealthy mennonite elite & friends.  The music is created to occupy meditation and deliberation.  Our main source of income is actually royalties from licensing these tracks to the house and senate for similar purposes.

AC) Can you tell (inform) us about future plans and releases by King Deluxe ?

AC) Evy Jane is having a bake sale.  Calvin Cardioid is planning to circumnavigate the globe in 79 days, armed with just a hot-air ballon, filled with maple syrup and dreams… Alphabets Heaven, Fancy Mike, Muta and Option Command have all built bear-sized battle robots as per my instructions, although purely as a defensive measure. King Deluxe HQ is not to be trifled with.  Aleph I believe has entered cryogenic sleep.  I personally will be spending the summer planting trees and researching an audiofilm based in the year 2999.  Which will be released well before then, in 2013.

SI) What about the clubs in Canada, any great venues to recommend here ?

AC) Here’s a typical Canadian party situation… fifty of us hiking 2500m over a glacier and down into the Shangra-La Basin.  Four crystal blue lakes surrounded by alpine meadows, a helicopter will fly in a wide array of exotic instruments, three days of gourmet camp food and homemade ice cider.  All acoustic, round a campfire.  August 10th?

SI) Perhaps the question sounds a bit funny to someone who lives in Canada, but in Europe many of us are curious what could be the differences, if there are any, among the francophone and the english. Does this topic effect the cultural and music scene of Canada; specifically in the contemporary electronic music scene ?

AC) It doesn’t affect our lives much.  Mostly due to the Good Wall our fathers built along the Quebec border back in the 70′s.  It’s a shame though, I’ve heard great things about the Montreal scene.

SI) How about some namedropping, do you want to recommend some artists that you consider representative in the contemporary Canadian electronic music scene ?

AC)Venetian Snares, Kid Koala, Caribou, Montag, Chromeo, Tiga, Botnek, Grimes, Hovatron, Knowing Looks, Poirier, Egyptrixx, Jacques Greene, Lunice, Evy Jane, Calvin Cardioid, Woulg, Limbo, Longwalkshortdock, The Original Uptown Parlour Orchestra, Taal Mala, Max Ulis, Michael Red, HxdB, Kir Mokum, Daiga Sound System, The Librarian, Secret Mommy, WNY, Rosso Corsa, Pirahna Pirahna, The Passenger, Calamalka, Self Evident, Ronin, Prison Garde, Sinjin Hawke, Teen Daze, Joseph Martin, Frank Grimes, Philth Kids, Cure, Eames, Monolithium, XI, Bassmynt, Snug, Ango, The Weeknd, Jokers of the Scene, Bearmod, Bowly, FM Radio Gods, Organ Mood, DJ Brace, Xavier Lubuis, Billy Dalessandro, The Gulf Stream, Purform, Skinnybones, Meek, Hissy Fit, Math Rosen, Comaduster, Tomas Jirku, Ango, Richie Hawtin, Ruairi Lazers, Subvert, Marcus Visionary, Knight Riderz, Homebreakin, Groj, Babe Rainbow, Azari & III, Milt Mortez, Steely Chan, I think that’s it.  These are all just various incarnations of the same 5 people.  Ask me again in a year though.

free downloads: artist recordings EP part 1

by fancypunk

This is an other release by Artist recordings that I can’t find many reasons to complain about. 4 tracks by GeneticBrosOverextended (Viper Rec,TalkinBeatz,Artist Recordings),Indivision - Evolution (Beta/Toolroom/Have-A-Break Recordings/Climate),Subsonik – feat.EssenceInside Your Mind (Subsonik Sound Recordings),Prestige & Nik ItchNo Exit – (GRID Recordings are included to this first part of Artist recordings EP with official release date January the 23rd. Dreamy vocals, melodies combined with powerfull breaks designed for the dancefloor, seems to be the clear direction proposed by artist recordings. As we also mentioned few months ago in previous review concerning artist recording release, the background as well as the reasoning of the label does not seem so bad. I dare say is somewhat progressive in our days and this is because its efforts of trying to mobilize new artists to show their work and spread quickly new impressive tunes. So it is worth your attention. You can download it for free by following the link with the instructions at breakbeat.co.uk here

free downloads: Plemo feat. Torsun “Fuck Audiolith!”

by fancypunk

The most of you , especially our friends from Berlin and Germany in general, I bet you know a label named “Audiolith”. Artists like Egotronic, Ira Atari, Saaschutz and many others are the dynamic of the audiolith.Antifasistic  lyrics, electropunk style, a genre still really popular in Germany. A rather progressive attitude and certainly radical content belongs to the strongly good part of this music style.

As a free download today , we have a track in collaboration of Torsun(from Egotronic) with Plemo called fuck audiolith released in February 2011 in 4 different versions, If you like what Egotronic do then you will definitely  like this release.

Blue Eyes EP Skeptical

by fancypunk

Skeptical’s vinyl debut was on Ingredients back in May 2010 with “Transfer / Block 305. This is the new one fresh released few days ago on ingredients records. 4 tracks are included on this ep and you can have a preview bellow this post.

Ingredients Records was launched in July 2009 by Clive aka Dj Psylence. Having been into the whole scene since the early days of 1991, raving to Ltj Bukem, Carl Cox, Hype, Fabio & Grooverider, Randall & Mickey Finn, then moving to london & attending the seminal Speed nights in the West End, as well as the first Metalheadz Sunday sessions in 1995, his experience of this genre was well equipped for the future. After playing on Pirate radio for 4 years & dj’ing in and around london for 10 years, he decided the time was right to launch a label.

free downloads – Artist recordings

by fancypunk

This is a nice compilation by artist recordings , an independent? net label based in London including 7 nice drum n bass and dubstep tracks by various artists. Apparently as We are used to do every  Thursday at this blog , all the tracks are free to download. Most of the tracks in this release are rather melodic and good  tunes for the dancefloor , this is a good reason for me to make a new mixtape including some of them. This is actually one of the best drum n bass free downloads posts I ever did so far , therefore I recommend you to give  those tracks a change.

I would especially like to remark (from the first cloud)  the track 7 , a cool dubstep tune with gorgeous melodic samples and lyrics as well as the track 2 which is a drum n bass , close to the liquid atmospheric stuff.

Furthermore I dont know much this label , it seems that releases tracks regularly , offering artists an opportunity to get some publicity? this is at least what I got by reading their description on soundcloud. Certainly drum n bass in our days is outdated and apart from those super commercial releases such as Camo and Krooked or either Chase and Status  , its hard to find cool free tunes online? You may noticed that part of our efforts at this blog is to discover and find non popular cool electronic music and as We constantly mention , you re always welcome to send us your stuff.

The Prague connection EP by Metalheadz

by fancypunk

A new EP by Metalheadz has released last September , including 4 tracks .The tracks are a new collaboration of Rido and Hybris.
The EP sounds familliar to those who like and follow the releases by Metalheadz recently , at least I guess so.

The first track of the EP is  “focus by rido” , fast breaks and definitely a very good studio production, the same for the second track by “Rido & Hybris  called the first contact”.  The third track , which is my favorite of this EP called “please exist by Hybris”  is rather more mellodic and good track for the dancefloor , reminding me loads of great past tunes. The last track  by  Rido together with Hybris named “memento” is actually following the same concept  of the previous tracks , nothing really spectacular in the end.If you like to buy this EP , you may visit the website of breakbeat.co.uk

You can listen the tracks bellow starting from my favorite track in this EP

I read the news on the warp website and i cant hide my excitment. Rustie one of my favorite artists so far is releasing his debut album next month( October 10th) on warp records (well known to all of you) label.

Dubstep vibes , much of artistic potential and great vocals (rather British style) , combined with nice breaks and experimental sounds , great bass and happy atmosphere. All of those  are all included to the album indeed. In other words is rustie as I know him since the time I explored his music and attending to a set of him in Athens few years ago.  Im posting bellow one of the tracks which is included to his album named late nite (it is avalaible for free download on warp music website). Im will publish soon a full review of the album , for the moment enjoy the nice track bellow.
