This years Ozora was one of the best festivals I´ve experienced so far. It´s an magical place full of peace, love and unity inhabited by about 50.000 friendly hippie-people. Its surrounded by beautiful nature and huge hemp fields and also the festival area itself offers a wonderful landscape. What I really appreciated at Ozora, is that the festival gives you a lot possibilities to enjoy your time there with different activities like yoga-, meditation-, or crafting-workshops or other hippie-stuff, which I´ve spend most of my time with, because I actually dont like goa-music Therefore I can´t write a lot about the music, except that the main-stage was always fast, loud, hard and crowded and the chill-stage was offering a large variety of dub-music, ambient, techno and world-music.
report by Jen pixie
One of the biggest and most popular psychedelic tribal gatherings, set place in the magical landscapes of Ozora, Hungary, yet again for the 12th year in a row.
Unfortunatly my friends and I didn’t make it to the first 2 days, due to the fact that we were at another festival in Greece right before it. 4rth of August, at around 3-4 in the morning, we finally arrived at the festival, having driven over a time of 2 days(making stops of course) to get there from Athens by car. Getting there we found out there were aprox.30000 people attending this year, so luckily we got there at night and didn’t have to wait for 4 hours at the ticket line(as some people i spoke with had to do)…we rushed in,parked, and left straight to the main stage, where Penta the Russian psytrance producer was about to go up on decks.
The atmosphere in the stage was mind boggling, so many people dancing to the music poudning away, many dressed up in all sorts of handmade costumes, fairies, elfs, pirates, aliens, a guy in a banana suite running all around, glitter, bubbles, blow up blastic animals everywhere, big hats big glasses, shiny happy party people all around! Amazing fluo decor coverring the main dancefloor area…lights and lazers, flickering over the trees and people dancing all around the hills and fields surrounding the main stage. Right behind the dancefloor, a huge bon fire was lit, with many people keeping warm and dancing around it. Nonstop music every day…except for a few hours break in the afternoons, when most people of the main stage moved over to the chill out stage: an amazing wooden mushroom/dome shaped construction lit up with different light patterns every night, where dub, ambient, chill out music were played all day and all night… The first day, there was quite a lot of progressive trance played, making it not so “chill”. Great sounds, possitive vibes, beautiful people. MAking it also a really great sleeping area. Great musicians, such as OTT, Eat Static, H.U.V.A Network,Kaya project, Younger Brother Sound system,Prometheus and so many more filled this air with magical sounds and happy vibes. Between the main stage and the chill out stage as always, there was a long path full of shops, chai stands, people with vans cooking and serving all sorts of foods from all over the world.
At night people put on fire shows, fire works were set off and Chinese lanters were set off into the sky. Quite a production! Basically, it seems like over the years the “O.Z.O.R.A. family” keeps growing bigger. more and more people attending, more shops and stands gathering, more people selling handmade jewelery/clothes, more djs. It’s not only a music festival anymore. Also having a “magic garden” , basically a space of yoga tents, all sorts of workshops, music lessons, activities…it’s become sort of a small village in a way of the “O.Z.O.R.A. tribe”…making it a meeting point for people from all over the world to gather every August. Massive combination of music and arts. Gathering people of all sorts and styles. From hippy types ,modern day “shamans”, to “warrior princes and princesses” , many people of the techno cummunity, of all ages…all dancing together in harmony. Smiles everywhere. quite delightful in our day and age, to be surrounded by thousands of happy hyper people! Many other festivals playing darker trance usually tend to have another vibe to them. O.Z.O.R.A. which mainly plays more progressive sounds and airy-fairy ambient tunes seems to just make people feel totally free and happy all day long
Andrew Till, Ollie Olsen, Geoffrey Hales and the rest crew of Psyharmonics records are the reson I listen psy-trance music from 1998. My first trance cd I listened was The Wizardry of Oz and after that Rip Van Hippy’s(Geoffrey Hales) album When Bernie Was a Tree.
Imidiately I felt in love with this kind of music. Those unbelievable experimental tones, basslines, efects, inspired from nature and many kinds of music like soul, funk, jazz, rock, dub, trip hop… perfectly combined mind blowing music! The right stuff to give u a kick to outer space!
Always pioneers in music, performing around the world in fests like Rainbow Serpent Festival in
Victoria,Total Solar Eclipse Festival in Japan, in many clubs in Melbourne and around the glob.
It was a pleasant surprise for me that party cause this guy is a true legent of trance music. So for every trancer who respects himself this party is a must! Not forget to mention Harris from Freeze mgzn who had this great idea to organise this event. Thanx Harris!
The event will take place at Red Sea Club, Potamianou strt 23
Many of you requested to publish the line up of tonights 4G Festival in Athens. So here you are… Check the official flyer below. Being honest, this party is rather not recommended by me personaly, therefore I haven’t post anything the previous weeks. The reason I’m writing a last minute post is because you asked for it. The last time I’ve been there (at the previous edition of 4G festival, a few months ago) it wasn’t a party that offered me inspiration nor made me dance. Perhaps I should mention that I don’t like psychedelic trance music so much as well as I had really bad time at UMEK party in Athens last year, too.
Who knows maybe this time the party is going to be better, you can send us reports. A last thing I have to mention about this party tonight is that the drinks as well as the entrance fee are ridiculously expensive (35 euro to enter , unknown how much the drinks cost this time). As long as the party organizers dont really care about the people and the prices as well as the line up, I feel that its a duty for us to criticise and mention these facts in order not only to show our objection as to let them know that we are not stupid. We expect and hope for a more friendly attitude of the club owners and party organizers in the future. We expect better events and interesting djs.
Besides Ozora festival , an other “big” trance festival takes places in Europe , “the Fullmoon”. This year the festival will take place at 21-28 of July. You can read more about the line up and the location in case you wanna go there this year. The official site of the festival is http://www.fullmoon-festival.com/ .
ps: The festival is not recommended by me but rather many people asked me to announce it here.
Ozora is the biggest electronic music festival in Hungary. You remember perhaps our photo report from last year’s edition . This year the Festival will take place at same location like every year. The line up in my opinion is one of the same usual stuff. Indeed Ozora remains one of the handfull trance festivals in Europe with a lot of people’s response. As far as I remember from my discussions with friends who have been there last year , the location is gorgeous and the people nice and friendly. If you are thinking to make it to the festival , there is only a question if you like trance music or not. The dates of the festival are 3-8 August , you can also visit the official website of the festival http://ozorafest.hu/
a new radio show starts by Meditative Monkey from Athens on freakuency radio on Wednesdays at 20.00-22.00 Athens , 19.00-21.00CET Berlin , 18.00-20.00 London. The previous Meditative Monkey was really immpressive , sounds from the ambient chill out music to trance beats.
Son Kite are Sebastian Mullaert and Marcus Henriksson originally from Sweden. For all of those who dont know much about Son Kite , They are producers of psychedelic trance , although their style is often defined as progressive psy-trance.
Minilogue are also a project of Sebastian Mullaert and Marcus Henriksson. But this time more orientated on Progressive House/Tech-House/Minimal Techno music. The name is a portmanteau of minimal (the musical style) and dialogue, which refers to music as a form of communication.
Actually Im rather thinking that event is totally a good one. The location ( Decadence club) as far as Im in the position to remember because the last time I visited was several years ago , it is a good one for Saturday night. Both of the projects (run by the same people) are interesting and definitely part of the electronic music history . If you live in Thessaloniki then you should not miss this event.
A new radio program has started last week on freakuency radio. psychedelic trance tunes for three hours in the night by Giannis p a new dj of our crew. Stay tuned
On Friday 22nd of January a reunion party of life Fm will take place in Athens. Few lines for people who don’t know what life fm 89.2 is about “special edition for the readers this month of the shituationist blog as well”. Dedicating some lines for life fm means that we present something concerning history of electronic music in Greece. Truly for people like me lifefm is a legendary frequency , is history of Athenian dance music scene in general. It is the radio that we were listening for years non stop . Life fm is the first electronic music radio in Athens , definitely part of the golden times of rave in Greece.
For some of us Life fm is also a beautiful distinct recollection of how dance music scene looked like 15 years ago. Perhaps today, my knowledge and the style of electronic music I’m listening doesn’t really meets the line up of the anniversary party for the 15 years of life fm. But in the other hand I would certainly like to attend , most probably because I will meet people who grew up with the radio:)I’m excited in the idea of having once again good time by talking about the past years and memories of our childhood…I still remember how disappointed I was when the radio stopped functioning
Well if you think the same with me , let’s go to the party and listen popular stuff such as trance tracks etc.. well-known from the daily program of the radio. I consider this party a good occasion (food) to discuss further what happened that years , maybe it could give us a motivation for a good article concerning anti-history of dance music scene in Greece??
Freakuency is a new decentralized radio online in a testing level which is started after long discussions , little steps of development , searching for resources , sharing skills. We are definitely convinced that was the right way to start a radio project. A horizontal way with all of us participating in a beautiful decentralized process with one purpose: starting a new online radio project collective related to electronic music interests.
Finally we succeed , our efforts came out with results and our little radio is online. Techno , minimal dj sets , house tunes , progressive attitudes , underground concepts , supporting local scenes and artists , drum n bass , dubstep as well as electro releases are occupying the self organized DIY “studios of our decentralised radio , broadcasting from everywhere.
Our project is open to new contributions and ideas , the only thing you have to do is to send us an open letter to our email address , describing your ideas. If you re willing to do it we will be glad to reply to you as soon as possible. The day schedule of our radio is an open process for discussion , with our collective discussing every new idea and possibility. So feel free to share your ideas with us
for new ideas and suggestions you can mail us here freakuencyradio@gmail.com and you can listen online here
